An Evening With Pete Doherty

Pete Doherty has announced two shows to take place next month at Hackney's Empire Theater in London. Doherty will play acoustic songs & read poetry on April 11th & 12th. Doherty will also more than likely read from one of his diaries, more well known as 'The Books of Albion'.

Here is a sample of Doherty's poetry which was written in his teens:

I knew she wasn't English
For she spoke it far too well
The grammar was goodly and the verbs where they should be
And the slang was bang on the bell
But as the language barrier banged and clanged
I could not hear, hear nor see
London, England and Bow
Crumble into the sea.

Tickets go on sale on the 7th of March and will be £17.50 each.

Maximo Park's second effort, Our Earthly Pleasures, leaked yesterday and is fantastic so far. While I haven't listened to the whole album yet, I have listened to most and it's brilliant. I can't pick any favourite tracks yet but I was listening to Girls Who Play Guitars on repeat for a while this morning.

I have decided not to post official material any more, but I will post a streaming version of Girls Who Play Guitars. If you want to download the leak, I have posted a link to Dancing Jesus, a download forum. You can find the album on there.

Mick Jones joined the Godlike Genius' Primal Scream on stage for a cover of the classic Clash song '(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais'.

Strange House - The Horrors

The Horrors are set to release Strange House, their debut album, on the 5th of March.

The record featues production by Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs fame and will include all of the songs of the self-titled US EP except for Crawdaddy Simone. The album will only be released in the UK by Loog Records.

The band will start a tour on the day of the album's release with three Virgin In-Stores in the UK before one concert in New York and then 18 dates back in England.

Gallagher & Archer, who traveled around the world for a series of acoustic shows in support of Stop The Clocks & Lord, Don't Slow Me Down, will be playing at Club B1 in Moscow on March the 23rd.

Three New Bravery Tracks

Three new tracks have appeared on The Bravery's website. One of three songs will start streaming when you go to the Bravery's website. The tracks names are Shapes, The Ocean & Every Word Is A Knife In My Ear and are set to appearon the band's sophomore album, The Sun & The Moon, due out in May.

The band's new sound has been described by frontman, Sam Endicott, as "a weird mix of the Rolling Stones & the Ramones".

The band have four gigs planned, including a Californian gig tonight.

Monkeys Selling Quickly In Europe

The Arctic Monkeys have sold out their Dublin show at Malahide Castle in under two hours. In other citites, such as Amsterdam, the band have had fans queuing around the corner to get tickets as seen here in a clip from a Danish TV channel.

Reviews of the bands sophomore album, Favourite Worst Nightmare, have already appeared on the internet, with Uncut's review here. The album is due out on the 23rd of April this year in Europe & then the 24th of April for everywhere else.

Liam Gallagher Attacks Photographer

While attacking the paparazzi is a common thing for Liam Gallagher, like drinking booze & eating dinner, this incident was different. Gallagher attacked the photographer in front of his five year old son Gene, and girlfriend Nicole Appleton.

The Maccabees Announce Tour

Arcade Fire criticise The Stones, U2 & Oasis

Speaking out in this week's NME, Win Butler of Arcade Fire criticised British rock bands techniques to sell records.

This is what Win had to say, "It's not like we shun success, but at the same time we don't' want to shove it down people's throats. In the UK there's this kind of rock star competition.

"I don't know if U2 started it, or The Stones or Oasis but a lot of bands think in terms of: 'I'm going to be the biggest band in the world. Fuck all those bands who've got no ambition'. I think that's a total crock of shit.
There's nothing less interesting to me than the idea of marketing the fuck out of something so people are forced to like it. Some bands are just manipulating people to buy music. That's how 90 per cent of the record industry works! It's basically the same as selling a fucking toaster or a cruise package."

Oops, She Did It Again!

Britney Spears, or should I say Britney Shears has shaved all of her hair off.

Spears, who recently divorced workaholic husband K-Fed, first entered the shop wearing a hoodie jumper and none of the staff noticed Spears' new look.

Staff were shocked at Spears' appearance when Spears took off her hoodie so she could get her tattoos, a pair of lips on her wrist and tiny little tattoos on her neck.

Noel Gallagher spoke with NME exclusive around this year's BRIT awards as Oasis picked up the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award.

Here now on NME.COM exclusively is the full interview with the guitarist:

NME: Congratulations on your BRIT award.
"Yeah, we're finally up there with the Eurythmics, Sting and Bob Geldof. I don't think congratulations are in order, to be honest. We're taking it now because otherwise they're going to ask us every year. It seemed the right time. We'd put out 'Stop The Clocks' and we're all under 40. So we just decided, 'Fuck it, lets do it now'.

How do the NME Awards compare with the Brits?
"The NME Awards are more natural. You get in there, get pissed, go off and get more pissed."

How important was the NME to your success?
"I think we should be proud, but so should the NME. I used to read it every week back in the 80s, and it would always say: 'Keep a look out for this lot, they'll take over the world' - for once it actually happened! We're the band that came out of those pages, took indie into the mainstream, gave every single band of the day ambition and inspired a whole generation of kids of who are coming through now. Enjoy it, it may never happen again. To paraphrase Elvis, I'm just glad I was lucky enough to be Elvis."

When did you realise Oasis were going to be so huge?
"When we released 'Cigarettes And Alcohol'. I was dead against releasing a fourth single from the album but it became the biggest selling single off 'Definitely Maybe'! I think that album had the same effect as 'Never Mind The Bollocks'. Those two albums were the most important albums of the last 40 years. Bands are still forming because of both those albums."

Where do you see your musical legacy in the current scene?
"It's difficult to say, but it's there because you get told how many bands formed because of that album. "Our producer Dave Sardy is coming over for the BRITs so I guess we'll have a chat and kick around some ideas. I've got eight songs that I'm pretty happy with. Liam has got one or two that he thinks are brilliant. We're waiting for Gem and Andy. 'Don't Believe The Truth' has been a very healthy kick in the arse. From 'Be Here Now' we've finished albums and I've thought 'We can do better than that'. When that one was finished I thought 'Fucking hell, this is good!'. I've found myself throwing a lot of songs away as a result. That's healthy. I fancy doing something more elaborate with this one. It's about time."

"I've put a new song on this page. We wrote it a couple of months ago as a theme for a Scottish film called Hallam Foe, directed by David Mackenzie who directed Young Adam and Asylum. The title character is played by Jamie Bell who was the lead in Billy Elliot.

Sexual tension, voyeurism, dark humour, Scotland and death are themes of the film - all of which seem good ingredients for a song by the Ferdinand. Nick and I read the script and went to screenings of early edits in the Glasgow Film Theatre which gave us the ideas for the melody and lyrics. Other Domino artists appear on the soundtrack including Psapp, Unpoc and Sons & Daughters.

12 Years Since Richey Edwards' Disappearance

On this day 12 years ago, Manic Street Preachers lyricist and guitarist, Richey James Edwards went missing. Bandmate and co-guitarist; James Dean Bradfield, knocked on Edward's hotel door with no answer. After calling band manager; Martin Hall, Bradfield & Hall discovered Edwards wasn't at his apartment & hadn't called his parents. The band was due to fly to New York later in the day.

As the band had shut themselves away from the public, investigators were doing all they could to find Edwards.
Supposedly, Edwards was spotted at the Newport Bus Station and Newport Passport Office on the 7th. Later that day, Anthony Hatherhall, a taxi driver in Newport, picked Edwards up from the King's hotel in Newport & drove Edwards around valleys, including Edwards' hometown Blackpool. Richey was then dropped off at Severn View service station and paid £68 in cash. Edwards' car was found at the Severn View service station near the bridge.

Richey's disappearance bears a resemblance to Ian Curtis' suicide (Curtis killed himself on the day when he was set to fly to America to tour). The Manics still carried on with the band and are one of the most successful non-BritPop bands from the 1990's.

Coldplay have planned a release of all of the band's fourteen singles to be released on 7" singles in a box set with their original B-sides and original cover art. The collection will feature the band's "The Blue Room" [EP], which was released in 1999 and never released on 7", will be split onto two 7" singles. Three international singles, "Don't Panic", "God Put A Smile On Your Face" & "What If" will all feature in the set; as will "The Hardest Part", which was previously download only.

Michael and Emily Eavis have revealed three headliners for this year's Glastonbury.

The Eavis' revealed to Q Magazine that Arctic Monkeys will be headlining the Pyramid Stage & Björk would be headlining the Other Stage. However, they wouldn't reveal on which days. The Who will also join the line-up for the festival which will take place from June 22nd and June 24th.

YouTube has announced it will share the revenue, yielded due to video clips placed at the site, with their copyright owners. At present day YouTube represents the most popular site sharing on-line video. In 2006 it was acquired by Google Inc. As it was mentioned by Chad Hurley, YouTube's co-founder, at the World Economic Forum, held in Davos, Switzerland, the idea of paying amateur videographers was suggested by the desire to motivate and reward creativity.

The revenue-sharing naturally implies the site's administrators will have to prescreen the video clips before presenting them at the site to guarantee their authenticity. The task is a complicated one, as about 100 million videos are submitted by 70 million users to YouTube every day. It also implies the clips taken by the users from movies, music videos and TV shows will not be accepted as they used to be up to the current time.

It is quite a turn for the company as its initial success was built upon placing all the clips without prescreening them. However, it is beneficial as this way YouTube will avoid confrontation with videos' copyright holders. To fulfill the task of video prescreening, YouTube will have to apply the image-identifying technology elaborated by Google's best specialists.

It is difficult to forecast whether the overall plan will bring further success to YouTube. To take into consideration, the competing site Revver that still has considerably less users is found among the first who shared its ads revenue, and GUBA, the site provided with image-recognition screening technology, also does not reach the popularity enjoyed by YouTube.

New Bloc Track; "Secret"!

Just when you thought the boys from Bloc Party had nothing else up their sleeves, a new & unknown track appears on the Canadian site, Exclaim.

The song starts off with the rhythm guitar playing some chords that sound rather heavy and Matt just pounding the drum. Then Russel's guitar kicks in and lightens up the mood with a catchy riff. After Gordon's bass starts off, Kele starts singing, "Boy, keep your stories close to your chest, to your chest. I said boy, keep your secrets, secret." in a rather dark manner. Matt then changes to a different rhythm as the guitars start to lighten up, and Kele's voice sounds more natural as they enter the chorus. After the chorus, the song starts to sound bigger and then returns to another instrumental before a repeat of the first verse. Heading back to the chorus, the 'whoo whoo whoo whoo whoo" like guitar effect is brilliant and brings the song into the outro. All in all, I think this is probably better than any of the songs on A Weekend In The City, except for maybe Song For Clay.

Alex Kapranos, speaking from a studio in New York where he is currently producing The Cribs third album, takes some time out to talk about plans for Franz Ferdinand's new album.

Alex reveals his plans to go back to the U.K. in a week and start writing new songs with Franzypants. Kapranos wants a whole new sound for the band's third effort and is willing to scrap the seven or eight songs that the band wrote will touring for their album, You Could Have It So Much Better.

Kapranos said "I don't really want to rely on the old songs so much - the songs that we were writing when we were on tour. I'd rather see what the character of the new songs is that we're going be writing. I'd like the next album to be quite new, to be quite different sounding from everything we've ever done before."

Paul, Nick & Bob are currently setting up a room in Glasgow for the band to record and write in when Alex gets back.

2 days after Arcade's Fire sophomore album, Neon Bible, leaked in full onto the internet, the 8-piece played St. John's Church in Westminister.

As if 14 songs weren't enough, the band went outside and played 'Wake Up' on the church's steps. Having played a church in Montreal on the 20th and 4 more sold out London shows along with 10 more warm up shows in Montreal & New York. The band then sets off on a 2 month tour through Europe.
